MADISON, Wis. (AP) _ University of Wisconsin Health is donating $2 million to the United Way of Dane County to pay for health insurance coverage for people who live in and around Madison.

The two groups announced Monday they were forming a partnership to create a new program called HealthConnect that will pay for insurance premiums for the estimated 7,300 people in Dane County adults who earn between 100 percent and 133 percent of poverty.

Gov. Scott Walker turned down federal money that would have paid for those people to remain covered through Medicaid. Instead, Walker tightened Medicaid eligibility from 200 percent of poverty to 100 percent.

Those above 100 percent will have to shop for insurance through the new federally run exchange which opens for enrollment starting Tuesday.
